The primary objective of the department is to train teachers for the Information Technology and Software course, as well as instructional technology specialists. In addition to enabling students to plan and teach Information Technology and Software courses—along with the necessary materials—at the private or public educational institutions where they will work after graduation, they can also take on roles at e-learning companies and in departments such as training and human resources—as well as at academies—within various sectors of the private sector, including finance, retail, and medicine. Our graduates will be able to conduct work in the field of instructional technology at all these institutions, design instruction in both the IT field and sector-specific areas, develop all types of learning objects and materials, and use programming languages to handle both instructional design and programming during the development process.
By the end of their studies in our department, students are expected to be graduates who: possess knowledge of the teaching profession and classroom management; are able to prepare and teach IT courses appropriate to the students’ levels at the educational institutions where they work; are inquisitive and keep abreast of developments; know how to access and apply knowledge; and apply these skills in educational-teaching environments, and who are innovative, creative, open to change, and capable of working in teams.
Graduates are qualified and eligible to serve as Information Technology and Software teachers at public and private middle schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.
In addition to teaching, our graduates work at educational institutions (such as companies that develop educational materials or those specializing in educational technology) and other organizations; they can work as Instructional Design Specialists to plan, develop, and implement in-service training for their own staff or for the staff of companies to which the organization provides services. Those who develop their skills as software specialists can take on roles such as Web Developer, Graphic Designer, Database Specialist, and Systems Analyst at organizations that require such expertise. Additionally, they can pursue graduate studies in relevant programs. Graduates of these graduate programs may serve as faculty members in academic departments at universities in Turkey or abroad, provided they meet the necessary requirements in their respective fields.
First-year students may not take courses from the third and fourth years, and second-year students may not take courses from the fourth year. Undergraduate students whose AGNO (Weighted Cumulative Grade Point Average) is below 2.00 for two consecutive semesters may not take courses from higher semesters. This rule applies starting from the beginning of the fifth semester. Students must first take courses from the lower grades of their current class that they have previously failed and have never taken before.
Y.T.Ü. Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree Education and Teaching Regulations ARTICLE 24 – (1), students are required to attend at least 70% of the theoretical courses they are taking for the first time or repeating due to absences, and at least 80% of all practical work other than theoretical courses. However, with the introduction of online courses, the Senate has decided for the 2021–2022 academic year that: In the event of a schedule conflict in a student’s course schedule, provided that one of the conflicting courses is delivered via distance education, students may be permitted to select up to two conflicting courses; furthermore, the attendance requirement shall not apply to courses taken as repeat courses.
