The "Save Life: Reorganizing Basic/Advanced Life Support Training Through the Use of Innovative Digital Materials" (SaveLife) project, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ KA220 program, aimed to provide healthcare professionals with up-to-date, open-access, and free access to Basic/Advanced Life Support (B/ALS) training materials that could serve as supplementary training or complement on-site training when deemed necessary by instructors. The primary objectives of the SaveLife Project were to investigate best practices in online training for B/ALS and to develop a comprehensive curriculum containing learning materials, primarily interactive videos and an e-book. The project brought together eight partner institutions from six countries: Yıldız Technical University (Turkey), University of Health Sciences (Turkey), Medical University of Sofia (Bulgaria), Panepistimio Thessalias (Greece), Bukovinian State Medical University (Ukraine), Sts. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (North Macedonia), Politechnika Slaska (Poland), and RQ Consultancy Ltd. Co. (Turkey).
Overall, the SaveLife Project targeted university staff, medical students, nurses, healthcare workers, and general practitioners working or planning to work in high-risk areas. By focusing on these target groups, the project aimed to create a significant and lasting impact on B/ALS training across Europe. Basic Life Support (BLS) training is received by medical students in the early days of their studies, and this knowledge is reinforced and further developed through Advanced Life Support (ALS) training. Basic and Advanced Life Support (B/ALS) is essential knowledge for physicians in managing cardiac arrest.
The project will provide an international and interdisciplinary analysis of current CPR practices in partner countries. The team will draw on global best practices to develop an innovative, modular online course design aimed at achieving sustainable development and ensuring that healthcare workers are prepared in Basic/Advanced Life Support (B/ALS). The project’s activities and final product will help integrate emergency life support interventions by facilitating access to up-to-date BLS/ALS training and online content developed with contributions from leading higher education institutions in the region.
